Steps Toward Building a Tighter Neighborhood Community
Safety starts with you. Almost everyone knows someone in their life that has been hurt by violence. So how do you keep your family safe while they are outside? You take action. First you head to the closet police station and you ask them how to start a neighborhood program. Then you go from door to door or send letters, asking people to help.
By everyone working together, watching each others property and children you have already taken a great step. You will begin to know the families and the children and you will know the people they belong around. So that if a stranger is seen approaching a child you will be put on alert.
Report crime promptly even if you are not sure what is happening. It is better to step up and be a little embarrassed, then to spend your life remorseful. Don’t give crime an opportunity, lock your doors and shut your windows every night. Breaking in is much louder than walking in.
A few other tips are: leave your porch light, never hide keys outside, keep bushes cut low, put up neighborhood organization signs alerting the criminals you are watching!
Be safe and be aware.
